Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship and predictive power of irrational beliefs and positive and negative perfectionism based on the communication skills of women seeking divorce in Zabol.

Methods and Materials: This descriptive–correlational study included all women seeking divorce in Zabol during the first half of 2024 (N=450), from whom 125 participants were selected through simple random sampling based on the Morgan table. Data collection tools included Jones’s Irrational Beliefs Questionnaire (1969), the Positive and Negative Perfectionism Scale by Short et al. (1995), and Barton’s Communication Skills Questionnaire (1990). Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation, independent t-test, and simple and multiple stepwise regression.

Findings: The results revealed significant correlations between irrational beliefs, positive and negative perfectionism, and communication skills. Regression analysis showed that verbal communication skills predicted 16% of the variance of irrational beliefs (P<0.001, β=-0.40). Feedback skills accounted for 5% of the variance in positive perfectionism (P=0.01, β=0.22), while listening skills predicted 7% of the variance in negative perfectionism (P=0.002, β=-0.27). All models were statistically significant, and assumptions of regression, including independence of errors and absence of multicollinearity, were met.

Conclusion: Communication skills significantly contribute to predicting irrational beliefs and perfectionism dimensions among women seeking divorce, indicating their crucial role in enhancing psychological well-being and interpersonal functioning.
