Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to investigate the relationship between personality traits and psychological resilience with self-compassion among postgraduate students.

Methodology: The research employed a descriptive-correlational and cross-sectional design. The statistical population included all postgraduate students at Vali-Asr Academic Complex, Tehran South Branch. A total of 120 students were selected using accessible random sampling. Data were collected using the Self-Compassion Scale (Reis et al., 2011), the Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (2003), and the NEO Personality Inventory (1985). Data analysis involved Pearson correlation and multiple regression tests.

Findings: Results indicated a significant positive relationship between psychological resilience and self-compassion. Additionally, self-compassion was positively correlated with conscientiousness, agreeableness, and extraversion. In regression analysis, neuroticism was the only significant negative predictor of self-compassion. Regarding psychological resilience, conscientiousness had a significant positive effect, while neuroticism showed a significant negative effect.

Conclusion: The findings suggest that personality traits—particularly neuroticism and conscientiousness—play a key role in shaping levels of self-compassion and resilience. These insights can inform the design of psychological interventions tailored to student needs.
